At The Aviary, we believe great coffee should protect the habitats it comes from. Wild parrot populations are declining fast, largely due to deforestation, much of it linked to unsustainable farming, including coffee. As one of the world’s most traded crops, coffee has a powerful environmental footprint.
That’s why we do things differently. We source exceptional beans from regions where parrots still thrive, pay higher premiums to farmers, and support sustainable practices that protect both people and wildlife. Every coffee we offer is paired with a wild parrot species from its origin, and every cup helps protect them.

African Grey Parrot
The African Grey Parrot (Psittacus erithacus) is one of the most intelligent and recognisable parrot species, admired for its striking silver-grey plumage and vivid red tail. Native to the rainforests of West and Central Africa, African Greys are found in countries like Gabon, Congo, Kenya, Cameroon, and parts of Ghana. Although once common, wild populations have suffered dramatic declines due to illegal pet trade and deforestation. The species is now listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
In their native forests, African Greys play a vital ecological role as seed dispersers, helping to regenerate and maintain healthy woodland ecosystems. Protecting their habitat means protecting the biodiversity of the entire forest. Supporting shade-grown, organic, and bird-friendly coffee farming in these regions helps safeguard the treetop homes African Greys rely on for food, safety, and nesting. Every cup brewed with care helps keep these brilliant birds wild and thriving.
